‘Osteopathy is not just for bad backs!’

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a distinct system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of conditions. It is complementary to and supportive of orthodox medicine. It is an established treatment approach catering for the patient’s individual needs. It is concerned with the inter-relationship between the body’s structure and the way in which it functions.

Osteopaths work with the body’s entire framework, the skeleton, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and other supportive tissues.

Who and what do osteopaths treat?

Osteopath’s patients range from the young to the older generation. Patients come from a wide range of backgrounds and seek treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including back pain, muscular aches and pains, repetitive strain injury, postural problems, the pain of arthritis and sports injuries.

Regulation of osteopathy

All osteopaths in the UK are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). It is against the law for anyone to call themselves an osteopath unless they are registered with the GOsC, which sets and promotes high standards of competency, conduct and safety.
